Hey, everyone.
I made a website that provides free alternatives to tech bootcamps & influencer courses.
I'm from India and have personally witnessed how exploitative edtech companies can be. People - especially non tech/CS folks - are led to believe that these bootcamps are teaching you something special when in fact they are merely regurgitating material that's freely available on the internet.
Some bootcamps provide "guaranteed" placements, but when you read the terms & conditions, you realize there are lots of caveats.
This might seem obvious to the HN crowd, but, for a non-tech beginner (with low confidence + no job), I believe these alternatives can help them save significant money.
All the resources listed are free. If getting certified is a priority, you can pay for the certificate on Coursera, edX. The cost will still be 1/10th the cost of bootcamps.
This is an opinionated list. You might say "But book X is better! You should recommend that book instead of Y!" That's not the website's goal. I want to instill confidence in the beginner learner and show them one (of many) free alternatives.
Lastly, I understand we all struggle with accountability/motivation/feedback. That's why I'm building a website that also allows you to find/share study groups. I host some study groups regularly. But, the goal is to create a self-learning BootCamp where anyone can host or join groups :)
i've seen a lot of people get burned by those 'guaranteed' placement bootcamps.
